Live Wedding Painting has gained in popularity over recent years, and is a unique and exciting way to celebrate your special day!
A live wedding painter can work in a variety of mediums. I have seen live event artists use acrylics, oils, watercolour, and even pencil and gouache when they create a piece. I personally work in oils for my live wedding paintings of the couple, as I love the depth of colour they allow for and the lovely blended look they give. However, when I am painting individual guest paintings I use watercolour. This is because it works well as a quick drying medium, and allows me to paint the maximum number of guests quickly and with great results.
Most live wedding painters will come to a venue early to see what parts of the decor and room should be featured in the painting. As it's a painting, they can use their artistic licence and add in and embellish parts of the background to make sure the piece looks as perfect as possible. This means that they can add in a flower arch that was featured earlier in the day, or take out an ugly air conditioning unit that was behind the newlyweds in the ceremony!
The live painter will take reference photos of the couple to work from, so that the couple don't have to stand still while the painting is being completed. The couple and the wedding painter will usually decide on a pose before the wedding day. in their pre wedding chat. The live artist will ask the couple what type of scene they are looking for in their wedding painting, and whether there are any special elements they would like to be added. This can included family members, parts of the wedding decor behind them, or even pets that couldn't be present!
Some live wedding paintings are finished on the day and some are taken back to the studio for touchups. The artist will arrange for the piece to be delivered by drop off or by courier.
The live wedding painting can then be displayed on your wall as a treasured reminder, and family heirloom to come, of your special day!
